Welcome to LittleRiverHistory.com, a dynamic research endeavor led by lifelong Little River resident Marcia Lynn Walker. Marcia Lynn is deeply rooted in this waterfront community, tracing her family’s presence here back over two centuries.

Embarking on an innovative approach to historical exploration, Marcia Lynn has taken her research to new depths—literally—by earning her Open Water SCUBA diving certification. Her recent dive expedition led her to the General Sherman, formerly known as the Princess Royal, which sank six miles off Little River’s coast on January 10, 1874.

Marcia Lynn’s mission is to preserve, protect, and celebrate the cultural and natural treasures of Little River. From historic homes and structures to the lush landscapes, majestic trees, and unique landmarks, she cherishes and documents it all. Her collection includes vintage photos, maps, sketches, and renderings that weave together the fascinating tapestry of Little River’s past.

Marcia Lynn’s journey into her own lineage revealed remarkable connections to Little River’s earliest settlers. She uncovered the fascinating link between her niece’s lineage and these pioneers. Equally intriguing was the discovery that Evan Pugh, the noted preacher from the original Cheraws District, is Marcia Lynn’s 6th great-grand-uncle, whose detailed journals document colonial South Carolina’s pivotal moments.

Travel back to the early 1900s with Marcia Lynn’s captivating narrative, chronicling the birth of recreational fishing along Little River’s waterfront, long before golf courses and the Intracoastal Waterway transformed the landscape.

Marcia Lynn’s genealogy quest blossomed into an all-consuming passion for Little River’s history. Her commitment to research, document, and preserve the legacy of this historic farming and fishing village is a lifelong dedication.

Benefiting from the groundwork laid by predecessors like Ben Burroughs, Catherine Heniford Lewis, C.B. Berry, Deryl Young, and other local historians, Marcia Lynn continues to expand her knowledge base.

Stay updated with Marcia Lynn’s recent discoveries and endeavors, including her acquisition of the 1902 Merchants & Tradesmen of Georgetown and Horry Counties. Reach out if you’d like her to delve into your family’s past or business lineage from this era.

As Marcia Lynn aptly puts it, “We must never be so occupied in the present or future that we forget the past.”
